The person behind the pages

A Creative Mind. A Few Too Many Ideas.

Hi, I'm Joei.

I'm a designer, author, creative thinker, and someone who apparently doesn't know how to have just one interest.

My background is a little unconventional. I have a degree in textile technology with a concentration in design, minors in art and design and health and fitness, and, because apparently that wasn't enough college, I went back for another degree in advanced web development.

Somewhere along the way, I discovered that all those seemingly unrelated interests had something in common: I love creating things.

01 / How it all started

Apparently, we're supposed to figure this out ourselves.

I'm Gen X. I'm getting older. I'm navigating perimenopause. And somewhere along the way, I started wondering why nobody bothered to mention half of this stuff.

The symptoms. The changes. The bizarre things your body suddenly starts doing. The astonishing lack of education about experiences that affect millions of women.

It's frustrating. It's ridiculous. And frankly, it's a little insulting.

So I started turning those experiences into something creative.

The Fine Print Collection grew out of that frustration—a way to find humor in the things nobody adequately prepares us for, while bringing attention to conversations we should have been having all along.

Because if we're all going to go through this, the least we can do is talk about it. And maybe laugh a little along the way.

02 / The creative philosophy

A little humor. A little imagination. A healthy dose of reality.

Some of my books come from personal experience, a fair amount of frustration, and the realization that life apparently has an entire terms-and-conditions agreement nobody gave us.

Others come from a completely different place—an overactive imagination and a love of creating little worlds that offer a temporary escape from the real one.

I don't believe creativity needs to stay in one lane.

Sometimes it's about making people laugh at something painfully familiar. Sometimes it's about starting a conversation that should have happened years ago. And sometimes it's just about making something delightful for no reason other than the joy of it.

03 / Beyond the books

There's more to life than deadlines. Apparently.

When I'm not designing, writing, or coming up with another project I probably don't need, you'll likely find me doing Pilates, adding to my PEZ collection, or spending time with my French bulldog, Brooklyn.

Yes, she has her own coloring book adventures. Apparently, creativity runs in the family.

There's always something else in the works.

Take a look around. You might find something that makes you laugh, something that sparks your imagination, or something that makes you realize you're not the only one wondering what the hell is going on.

And if nothing else, at least now you know who's responsible.
